A portrait of the author as a two-year-old. The gun I'm holding is a 64 caliber pistol, made in 1837 by a French gunsmith whose name is hand-engraved on the lock plate. Brass trigger guard and butt cap, and it has a steel belt clip on the side away from you. My dad bought this gun in a Fairbanks pawn shop in about 1956. He still has it, of course. I don't know what happened to the coonskin cap.
